The name of the game is “BULYAH”.  The object of the game is to spell out “BULYAH”.  Armed with the beverage of their choice, players of take turns rolling the dice and moving around the board, trying to collect enough Letter Cards to spell the word, “BULYAH.”  Though it sounds easy, it is a board game and, in true board game fashion, there are stops along the way that try to prevent players from reaching their goal.  These stops are what make the game interesting – and bring the drinking into the picture.

Before play begins, fill a 4-ounce glass to the brim with the beverage of everyone’s choice and place it in the middle of the board. The “Grave” will be consumed many times throughout the game as players either land on a “Grave Stone” space on the board or are instructed to do so by one of the 100 Action Cards.  When an Action card is drawn, the player must follow the command designated.  This can range from announcing, “I am stupid” before taking a drink, to acting as servant to all of the other players by refilling their drinks, and even making up your own rule as the “Rule Master”. Oh yeah, be weary of the Prison and Hospital spaces. However, you can gain relief by hiding out in the “Safety Zone”. Make sure you shuffle both decks of cards thoroughly before placing them on the board!

It is that easy! Use the rest of the directions as a guide as you play.  CHEERS!

Action Cards: There are two types of Action cards: Rule cards and Performance cards.  When you pick an Action card, read it to yourself FIRST because some of the cards are marked “Confidential.”  If your card is marked “Confidential”, do not tell anyone the content of the card until you decide to use it.

·         Rule Cards: Keep your “Confidential” rule cards face down in front of you.  The other Rule cards are to be read aloud in order to put everyone on notice that you are the owner of this rule. The Rule cards become void in two ways.  First, there are Anarchy cards, which require some or all of the Rule cards to be returned to the bottom of the deck… forcing the rules created by players to become void.  Second, there are Action cards that allow others to take your Rule cards.  Remember to use strategy when in possession of the “Confidential” Rule cards.

·         Rule Master: This card allows the holder to make up any rule that he or she wishes.  If a player makes up a rule that the majority agrees to be cruel and unusual punishment, the player must make up a new rule.

·         Performance Cards: You must do whatever the card commands of you.  After its use, return the card face down to the bottom of the Action card deck.

Letter Cards: When you pick up a letter card, look at it and place it face down in front of you. Remember to use your best poker face!   You must only show the card when required to do so by an Action card. There are Wild cards that can be used to take the place of any letter.

The Grave: Select a clear 4-ounce glass of your choice (Preferably a Tumbler glass).  Fill the glass (grave) with the beverage of your choice and place it on the center of the game board.  A player must drink the entire Grave when instructed by a card or by landing on a “grave stone.”  The player then refills the grave to the level of his or her choice (remember strategy is key).  Allow the player drinking the grave to finish before the next person rolls the dice. Note:  If everyone decides not to play with a “Grave,” that is fine.  Every time someone is required to “Drink the Grave” or lands on a “Grave Stone,” that person will drink from his or her own beverage.

Doubles:  If a player rolls doubles, he or she rolls again without moving their game piece. (Think of this as being arrested.)  Roll the dice again (now for the sentencing), if he or she rolls doubles again, that person goes directly to prison.  If he or she does not roll doubles, move the appropriate number of spaces and than the turn passes to the next player.

Drink:  Whenever a card orders a person to “Take a Drink,” that person takes a healthy swig of their personal beverage.

Passing Start: When a player lands on or passes “start” he or she collects a letter card.

BULYAH Space: When a player lands on this space he or she yells out “BULYAH” and all players must take a drink from their personal glass.  While that player is on the space, he or she can call a “BULYAH” toast at any time, which means that everyone must take a drink from his or her own glass or bottle.

Hospital:  When a player lands on this space or is sent to the “Hospital” by an Action or Rule card, the player must drink and loses a turn.  Do not pass Start.

Prison:  When a player lands on this space or is sent to Prison by an Action or Rule card, or by rolling doubles, the player must drink, and loses a turn.  Do not pass Start.

Safety Zone: Whenever a player occupies this space, he or she is not subject to any other players’ made-up rules.

Cured & Paroled: If a player lands on these spaces, the player is able to take a breather.  Note:  Although this player is not forced to drink, take an Action card or a Letter card, this player still obeys the rules that govern this game.

Creativity Note: This game is intended to be different every time you play, so use your imagination and have fun.  If there is any confusion about the instructions, changes are allowed and recommended as long as the majority of the players agree to them. House rules are strongly encouraged.

To Win: The first player to spell BULYAH is the winner.  That person yells BULYAH and forces the losers to drink an entire grave.
